Creekside Montessori in Colorado City has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Occurring this year on November 28, #GivingTuesday is annually held on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the US) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
Margaret Williams, the founder of Creekside Montessori, has a 27-year history educating young children. In the especially formative years of early childhood education, she has seen children get left behind or lost in a system that didn’t reach out to them. Margaret began to learn about the Montessori Method and was driven to make it available to the children (and future leaders) of our community. Dr. Maria Montessori has said, “Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment.” Being so, an early childhood Montessori classroom is thoughtfully arranged to encourage independence through choice of sensory-motor activities, “working with materials that develop their cognitive powers through direct experience: seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, touching, and movement.” More information about the program is available at www.creeksideway.com.
Montessori schools nationwide are known for sizable tuition costs, yet Margaret has made it top priority to make this type of education to everyone, especially those children who may need it most. In order to do so, Margaret is asking for Creekside Montessori to be remembered on #GivingTuesday and this holiday season, “Time and again, I’ve seen the beauty of individuals coming together to make something amazing happen. People here have such giving hearts. I welcome community support and contributions that will make a real impact on children who can significantly influence our future.”
