Upcoming Hildale Election-What you need to know

November 7, 2017, is the day that elections will be held for four seats in the Hildale City government. This is a municipal election only and has been contracted by Hildale to Washington County. Up for a vote, are three council member seats and the mayor’s seat. There have been some questions about how, and whether there is still time to register to vote. Put simply, if you are a Hildale resident, even if you have an Arizona ID, you can register to vote. You have to prove that you reside in Hildale. It is important to get it done quickly because there are deadlines looming.

The mail-in voter registration deadline is past. You may still register to vote online at www.vote.utah.gov, or at the Washington County Clerk’s Office. If you wish to register for early voting, you must deliver a completed Utah Voter Registration Form to the county office on or before October 23, 2017. If you plan to vote on election day, you must register either in person at the county office, or online, on or before the deadline of October 31, 2017. The ballots will be sent by mail to registered voters.

There is a ballot drop box located at the Washington County Library at 440 E. Newel Avenue, Hildale, UT 84784. This is where you will submit your completed ballot on election day. Ballots will be mailed shortly after your registration has been received by the county. You can submit your completed ballot to the drop box up until the end of election day, November 7, 2017. Voters who are already registered may fill out an absentee ballot application online, or in person at the Washington County Clerk’s Office, on or before November 2, 2017, if they are unable to cast a ballot at the drop box.

This election is very important for the future direction of the city of Hildale. It will send a powerful message about the will of the people and what type of community they wish to live in. State and county officials are looking closely at voter turnout, and are excited to see large numbers of people turning up to vote.  Be sure to read and follow the instructions on the ballot and fill it out correctly.
